American Politics, Graduate Field Seminar

Course I in core PhD sequence, American Politics field
[ Syllabus ]

This seminar examines various approaches to the study of American politics—those important today as well as those that have been important in the past. The course is organized around a selection of key questions in political science, and we will focus on evaluating the analytical usefulness and empirical support of existing theories and ideas. None of the questions are unique to American politics, and comparative cases are also considered. Examining the merits and limitations of different approaches to answering each type of question will be a core part of our discussion.
